Abstract submission

Abstract submission is available only for registered participants.

  • Close of abstract submission: 1st April 2018
  • Confirmation of acceptance: 15th April 2018
  • Deadline for registration fee payment with accepted abstract: 31st May 2018

Abstracts can be submitted electronically only, using the online registration system. After you create your account in the online registration system you can submit your abstract. Abstracts sent by mail, e-mail or fax will not be accepted.

Requirements for Abstracts

The language of the conference is English, thus the abstracts and all presentations must be in English.

Please follow the guidelines provided below.

  • The maximum length of an abstract is 2500 characters. (including spaces)
  • The mandatory sections of each abstract are:
  • Introduction - Question/Hypothesis - Method - Results - Discussion/Conclusion.

When the Scientific Committee and the Advisory Board evaluates the individual contributions, the quality, detailedness of an abstract, as well as the author's compliance with our guidelines will be taken in consideration. In case of empirical studies, it is mandatory to include the N (sample size) and the main P values of the most important results to the Results section. We do not recommend including references to the abstract, unless it is of paramount importance (e.g. your study is a replication of an earlier paper; or an application of a specific experimental paradigm etc).
Each contribution will be evaluated anonymously by two reviewers, and based on their recommendation the suitability of the contributions as oral, Pecha Kucha or poster presentation will be decided.

Each participant can upload maximum three abstracts.

Presentation formats

Oral presentation

Abstracts for oral presentations will be selected by the Organizing Committee based on the evaluation by the Scientific Committee and the Advisory Board. There are limited possibilities for oral presentations, therefore some abstracts submitted as an oral presentation may be converted to Pecha Kucha or posters. (If you are unwilling to make a Pecha Kucha or Poster presentation please inform the Organizing Committee). The length of talks will be 12 minutes, plus 3 minutes for questions and discussion.

Pecha Kucha Talk

A Pecha Kucha is a style of presenting involving strict timings, with 20 slides, each lasting 20 seconds (total of 6 minutes 40 seconds). The constraints of the format encourage you to be concise, think about the narrative of your research, and to create an engaging presentation to encourage a dialogue (the tem Pecha Kucha is Japanese for “the sound of conversation” or “chit chat”). You can download our power point template for a Pecha Kucha HERE. The slides are set to change every 20 seconds so all you need to do is add the content. When putting together your slides, remember to think visually, and use text in a minimal way. It’s a good idea to rehearse your presentation thoroughly to get the timings right."

Poster presentation

Posters will be displayed for three full days. Adhesive, etc. for poster affixation will be provided. Poster displays should be self-explanatory even in the absence of authors. Posters should not exceed a size of 85 cm (width) x 120 cm (height) (standard standing A0 format).

Poster presentation with poster teaser / Poster presentation with video abstract

To provide a more powerful impact for the authors of the posters as well as giving an easier chance to pick the 'must see' posters for the audience, at this conference it is recommended to present EITHER a short poster teaser talk OR video abstract connected to each poster. The Organizers will create a time slot for everyone who wish to provide a poster teaser or present a video abstract. Poster teaser talks are limited to 3 slides and 2 min. Video abstracts are limited to 2 min as well. Poster teasers / video abstracts will be scheduled between regular oral presentations in the program.

Graphical abstract

We encourage every author, regardless of presentation type, to provide a graphical abstract as a pdf attachment along the regular abstract to his/her contribution. This is not a mandatory requirement, however, as the abstract book will be an electronic issue, we have the capacity to include high quality graphical material. You can find useful examples HERE. You can upload one pdf file per abstract with a maximum size of 2 GB. For the graphical abstracts we require ISO A4 size with a minimum 595px*842px and 72 DPI resolution

Participants are welcome to send their abstracts related to the following topics
(please select one from the list that covers the most your topic during the online abstract submission):

Publication possibilities

Acta Biologica is one of the longest running scientific journals of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences published in association with Wolters Kluwer International. We would like to devote the first issue in 2019 to the best papers of the Canine Science Forum to celebrate the 10-year long tradition of this conference series.

As a new editor in chief, Prof. Ádám Miklósi would encourage the participants of the Canine Science Forum to send an abstract to him as an intent for publication. The deadline for the preliminary abstract submission is the 30th of June. Based on the submitted abstracts, the editorial board will make a quick preliminary decision whether authors would be encouraged to send their manuscript for full evaluation. We are looking for short empirical papers that has not been published elsewhere, and aim for 8 to 10 publications in this issue. The deadline for submissions will be 15th of September, 2018. Manuscripts will be subject to a rapid standard review process; publication is planned for March 2019 but papers are accepted on a continuous basis.

The publication is free of charge, and papers will receive an open access status.

For more information about Acta Biologica, please visit the Acta Biologia website

For the preliminary abstract submission and further information, do not hesitate to contact Prof. Miklósi directly at amiklosi62[at]gmail[dot]com
